26.06. Sweden

We did it! We entered the scandinavien peninsula. As i am writing I sit in the sun on a first class campground next to Mölle. After we couldn’t manage to find a couchsurfing-host in Malmö we spent the first night here in the car just outside the town. Weather was still windy at lots of rain. Anyways we visited the town, both yesterday and today. The new built part of the city around the “turning torso” looks really great and the coffee in the town center tasted very well.

Today we visited the city-museum. A strange mixture of exhibitions awaited us:

- fashion of the twenties

- the castle of malmö

- warfare in the middle ages.

- especially around malmö

- modern art

- natural historic part

- aquariums

- technology

- rockphotography

After that cultural overdose we decided to leave the town and headed north. And here we are, on this beautiful campsite.

27.06. Mölle

Today we decided to take a walk around and we ended up hiking for seven hours in this amazing landscape. If you ever get here: do the blue trail! We did some geocaches on the way and ended up in a beautiful small restaurant at the harbor. And well, sweden indeed is expensive! So as you can imagine we took heaps of pictures and we are proud to present you our still quite large selection.

Bullerbü syndrome: healed

The Bullerbü Syndrome is a state of mind that germans get when they enter sweden for the first time. After reading all the books of astrid lindgren and totally believe in IKEA, germans tend to think that sweden is perfect. And as you can see below, it isn’t. That leads to a major depression normally, but as we are so very very tough we are fine.

29.06. at the lake

After three days in Mölle we feel the urge to move on. And so we do. As we are listening to a good audiobook we have no intention to get somewhere and enjoy the driving itself. Just before we reach Göteborg we leave the motorway and drive through a landscape with lots of forest and lakes. A lot of driving needs some fuel as well so we fill up and forget the petrol cap. as we came back an hour later, it was gone. Damn it! Anyways, after some searching we find a beautiful spot to sleep. The rain starts again and we stay in the car, watching flight of the conchords. Lets hope tomorrow, there won’t be that much rain.

30.06. Göteborg

This morning we are lucky with the weather. No rain, even some sunbeams here and there. After a nice breakfast on the pier we head to Göteborg. And as we find out at the free Wi-Fi station of a McDonalds: another couch request fail. So we drive to town and start our culture-program again. This time the museum of world cultures. Amazing building, great exhibitions. Informative and touching at the same time. A must see if you come to Göteborg. Before leaving, we ask the guy at the counter for some tips regarding the city and if he knows someone who offers couch surfing. He tells that he will see what he could do and call us later. So we visit the city a little longer, check out the beach volleyball tournament and get a fine for parking too long which is absolutely too expensive! Then we decide to leave the town as still we didn’t find an accommodation. On our way out Johan calls us and provides to stay at his place. We spent the evening with his family, some great wine and a great talk.

01.07. Göteborg

Today, again, the weather looked like shit. But just as we left the house it changed and the sun came out. We are visiting more museums. Can’t get enough of culture. The design museum (Röhsska Museet) and the art museum are worth a visit. In the evening Dominique cooked an amazing meal and afterwards, wine and great conversations again. And then we started projecting the flash lines again. It was a truly amazing day!

01.07. Göteborg Projection

At first we start with the scandinavian kitchen Then it’s the lamp and the glasshouse in the garden It is great fun to do this over and over again. And as we are a little drunk and listen to great music we are in a very creative mood. Daniela comes up with the idea to make a projection on Johans face. Despite his work at the museum he is a studied actor and we are sure that he has a lot more skills then sitting there without moving:) What a fantasti evening again!! 2.7. Göteborg

We slept very long today and we have a slight hangover. As Kalle has to work, Dominique and me went for a little walk around the harbor. The city looked beautiful from that side of the river and it is great that the bus ticket is also valid for the ferries. In the afternoon we had a little nap again and later we went to the city center again. We ended up in an irish pub listening to live music. A really relaxed day, that was.

4.7. Tjörn

Kalle is doing a lot better today. He slept a lot and we can move on. We had a great time at Dominique and Johan and maybe we convinced them to visit us for a wine tour this fall. That would be great fun.

Our next stop is the island of Tjörn. We visit the natural and sculptural sight of Pilane. It inherits some very old graves, some very new sculptures and some very friendly sheep, all settled in a mystic landscape. I like a lot that the sculptures and the landscape amplify each other. The chinese temple on top of the hill is the highlight with a great view over the sea and the other small islands.

Afterwards we drove around the island a little longer and had a look at the aquarell museum. But instead of going in we drink a tea on the terrace and discover that the fjord is very invaded by jellyfish.

By ferry we reached another small island where we settle just in front of the water and the pier. I enjoy the cooking, the food, the guitar and a book. And still no moskitos. What a surprise!

5.7. island of Grönvik

We like it a lot here. So we decide to stay for another day. It is quite windy though and all our hiking attempts end up in blind lanes. But the wind gets weaker. So we decide to test our canoe. We have to blow it up and just before passing out our neighbor lends us his pump. Note to self: Buy a pump! Kalle put the camera in the water bag and we are off. Still there is lots of jellyfish and seaweed and the boat is ardly steerable but after a while we get enthusiastic and decide to go around the island. It was beautiful but hard hard work. My arms are jelly. The skin is sunburnt. Great day!

6.7. Strömstad

The wind grew stronger a lot tonight. We pack everything into the Do2000 and off we go. We need civilization again, we need internet and we need food before we leave the cheap sweden. Also we want to get in contact with possible hosts in Oslo. The last bigger city, or lets say village, next to the border is Strömstad. We eat some Kötbullar and check our the shopping mall which is completely overrun by norwegians. We buy an air pump and find a camping south west of the town that provides Internet and is not too touristic. And then, there was the rain again. You can not believe how that might ruin the mood. Everything gets wet and the camping has only internet around the reception. There is a place with a roof but no walls and without electricity so we sit there, get wet anyways and freeze. Then we went into the car and instead of cooking we eat bread again and later we go in our cold, cold tent. no pictures today, no need to take them.

7.7. Strömstad and an unforeseen twist

It is not getting better. The weather still sucks. Packed together the totally wet tent, back to the wet internet place and no positive answers from couch surfing. The mood is at a low. Back to the city, still packed with norwegians. But we manage to buy some rain-boots and some food. The positive rush of consume doesn’t last very long. We decide to stay in sweden and find a place with a roof and internet until we manage to find a host in Oslo. In the tourist info we are sent to a hostel which turned out to be some kind of old military barracks with a highly pedantic owner. Thanks, but no thanks. So we drive inlands to find a cheaper and not so touristic place. We are looking for signs that say “rum” but there are none. Instead we find a sign that says “öppet”. So whatever is “öppet”, maybe they can send us to a “rum”. And tadaa, we met the first swedes that don’t speak english. Anyways we understand each other, they describe us a way and we buy some amazing crabs. The house we find is cheap and clean and just perfect. We have our own room and a cat. A big lodge provides enough space to hang around, cook, eat and Internet. The meal Danny cooked is a high rank in the top ten meals ever eaten!! Then we take a walk “into town” and listen to some swedish country music. What an unforeseen twist. The mood is at a high

08.07. Krokstrand

Today, we’ve been hiking. There should be a beautiful hiking trail around that leads to a nice view. We missed the trail but found some nice views anyways. On our way back we even found some Emus. Then some blogging and bed-time.

31.07. Sweden

Todays mission: Sweden / shopping. As we finally get there, the shops are closed. We think about renting a cabin or something similar, but the prices…. you know. So we slept in the back of the car and as it rains heavily we watch a film and have basic but tasty dinner.
